How the time is flying!

It is already mid-November - very hard to believe especially since there is no gross November weather here in the Southeast Pacific region. There is rain but it's not so cold; panas sikali (look that one up if you wish to understand)! I have been continuing my assistant teaching at Solafide school and having afternoon/evening English clubs at the church. The church also is involved with something they call "Rumah Singgah" or "Rumah Pintar" - a bunch of kids from a poorer village outside of Ungaran gather with volunteers from the church in a community member's home for some informal teaching. The kids range in age from 4 to 13, by my estimations. And they always seem really excited to be there; they bring their backpacks and notebooks, and most of them are freshly showered for the 1.5 hours we spend with them. I am not sure how many of them regularly go to school, but I think for some, this once a week gathering might be their sole educational opportunity at present.

Over the past few weeks the church congregation has been collecting supplies to send to victims of Mt. Merapi's eruption, so on Friday a group went to one of the relief camps to give things that have been collected. They also played games, sang songs with the kids, and heard stories. I was not there, but hope to participate if there are future trips.

Ok, not a whole lot else to say at the moment. Enjoy the photos!

  1. Right. The first few photos are Borobudur Buddhist temple near Yogyakarta (very famous tourist attraction), then some from the school's UN day celebration, then from the team meetings last weekend.
